The student experience

Learning designed around real contact time, not just lectures
The training uses a “flipped classroom” approach: rather than sitting in a lecture while a tutor talks, you watch each lecture in your own time, then use live contact time for questions, discussion, practical exercises and feedback. It’s designed to be the most effective use of both your time and the time you spend with a trained tutor, and to take you to the same level of skill, knowledge and confidence as someone completing a classroom training, so you’re able to practise safely and effectively as a fully accredited hypnotherapist.
Whichever format you train in, the rhythm is similar: you engage with the material at your own pace, then bring questions, uncertainty and practical experience into a live setting where it can be worked through properly, rather than simply absorbed and moved past.
How one-to-one tutoring adapts to you
One-to-one tutoring means your tutor is consistently working with you at the edge of what you can already do, sometimes called your “zone of proximal development.” In practice, this means the pace of your learning is genuinely built around where you are, not a fixed group timetable. If something clicks quickly, you move forward; if something needs more time, you get that time, without a room full of other students waiting.
The Online Diploma includes 18 hours of one-to-one tutoring – worth over £900 – more dedicated individual contact time than most classroom programmes provide. Research on one-to-one tutoring has found the average tutored student can outperform 98% of students taught in a conventional classroom setting (Bloom, 1984).
All tutors are themselves registered Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapists who have completed the Diploma, been personally selected by Mark R. Davis, and completed additional training in Hypno-CBT® supervision and coaching.
Practising with real feedback, not just watching
Close to half of the training involves practical exercises in pairs, taking turns as therapist and client. To support this, we run regular Online Practice Sessions over Zoom, where you’re paired with another student to practise a specific script or exercise from the course, with time built in afterwards to discuss and debrief.
Every session is supervised by an experienced Tutor Supervisor, who’s on hand to answer questions, offer guidance, and observe your practical work. Sessions run for two hours, four times a week, at a range of times including evenings and weekends, giving you access to over 400 hours of supervised practice sessions across your training, and real flexibility in fitting practice around your existing life and work.

A global community, not just a course
Training with the College means joining a genuinely international community of hypnotherapists, students and graduates studying and practising from around the world, not just a local cohort. Many students find as much value in the peer relationships built through paired practice sessions as in the course content itself; the people you practise with often become part of your ongoing professional network long after you qualify.
What the workload actually looks like
The course includes around 100 hours of video content from the live training, edited into short modules with captions, plus supporting demonstration videos and downloadable audio of every lecture. You’ll also have three digital course manuals (over 900 pages in total) and more than 1,200 PowerPoint slides supporting each module. You’re enrolled for 12 months, with full access to revisit any material as often as you like for revision.
In total, including practicals, case studies and written assessment, most students should expect to allocate somewhere between 300 and 450 hours to complete the course and gain the qualification; we suggest planning for around 350 hours as a realistic guide. Many students complete within 6 months; the full 12 months is there for those who need it, and extensions are available if needed, though these are chargeable.

Support beyond the coursework
Setting up in private practice can feel daunting, so we don’t leave you to figure it out alone once training ends. Throughout the course, we keep the focus on what comes after: setting up in practice and envisioning your success, not just passing the qualification.
You’ll get a detailed A-to-Z of next steps once you’ve completed training, along with business advice and practical tips woven through your work with your tutor. Beyond the course itself, the Hypno-CBT® Professional Membership Hub carries ongoing marketing and business support events, plus a library of business support articles, books and resources.
Alongside all of this, students have access to free Walk-in Business Surgery sessions with professional business coach Mark Austin (an informal, drop-in space for questions about the practical side of setting up in practice) as well as dedicated marketing and business coaching courses to help you get started and accelerate your private practice.
What our students say about the experience

“I was working full time and I had to keep my job. If the College didn’t offer an online format of the Diploma, I wouldn’t have done this – and I’m so grateful that I was able to do this. It’s something that has changed my life.”
Harriet Curry
Online Diploma Graduate, Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapist
“This is a top quality online program, very cleverly designed to create a full online experience including the practice sessions and the coaching support provided. All of the materials and teachings are evidence based. In a world of social media courses with glitzy advertising this is very much the real deal and will equip you to be a practising well qualified hypnotherapist.”
Helen M Wiseman
Executive Coach (ICF Acc)
“The online hypnotherapy course platform is very well organised and my regular tutorials online have been amazing as my course tutor is really supportive. The course involves being paired up with a professional in the field of hypnotherapy and this has been a great asset in aiding my learning. The course is well structured and demanding and so far I feel like I am taking massive strides in my knowledge and proficiency as a future Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapist.”
